Glenn L. Person, Sr., 88, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at Big Spring Center for Skilled Care. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Rev. William T. Vaughn, officiating. |
He was born May 20, 1927, at Sulphur Springs, Texas to Mamie Bratten Person and Jerry Person. He grew up at Sulphur Springs and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School. He attended Texas College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy in the quarter master corps.
He married Essie Lee Evans Dec. 26, 1948, in Sulphur Springs. They came to Big Spring in 1950. Glenn worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 33 years, retiring in 1986. He was an active member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, serving as chairman of the deacon board and also served seven years as president of the Mt. Bethel Senior Choir.
He is survived by his wife: Essie of Big Spring; two sons: Glenn L. Person, Jr., of Dallas, and James Person of Big Spring; three grandchildren: LaKeisha Person, Kimberly Person, and Glenn L. Person, III, all of Dallas; three great-grandchildren; Flower Hamilton, Domonique Holliman, and Caleb Wright, all of Dallas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
