Gussie Watkins Obituary
Gussie Watkins, 85, of Big Spring, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born Arguista Ann Leach July 7, 1929, in San Saba County, Texas to Ben R. and Rhonda Marie Slaughter Leach. She married John Wallace Watkins May 9, 1946, in San Saba County. He preceded her in death May 23, 2006.

Gussie worked many years as a cook for various places in Big Spring. She worked at Webb Air Force Base, Big Spring Community Nursing Home and retired from Big Spring High School. She loved cooking, especially when she was cooking for family and friends.
Gussie was a Baptist and an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School in the primary department for many years.

Survivors include two sons, John Douglas Watkins and wife, Darlene of Lubbock and Larry Watkins of Big Spring; two daughters, Mildred Hooser and husband DeLloyd Hooser, and Patsy Cate, all of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Tammy Stafford, Kevin Cate and wife, Margaret, Kristy Hooser and husband, Paden, Stephen Watkins and wife, Kendy, Erica Cate and Kaci Garmon and husband, Travis; and 11 great-grandchildren, John Michael and Aaron Trevino, Gabe and Kisa Cate, Hunter, Ryder and Tucker Watkins, KJ Cate, Emmalyn Hooser and Jarrett and Jensen Garmon.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
