Leonard E. Burks, 82, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.|
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Howard County and married Jimmye Ruth Shanks Dec. 21, 1952 in Howard County.
Leonard worked at Webb Air Force Base for 20 years. After retiring, he drove truck for Southwest Tool, Williams Industrial Fabrication and Gamco. He was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ and had served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmye Burks of Big Spring; one daughter, Elaine Shapleigh of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Randy Burks and wife, Laurie of Big Spring; one brother, Charles Burks of Garden City; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmon Dennis and Edna (Thames) Burks; and one brother, Wilmon Dexter Burks.
