Mary O. Thomas, 89, of Big Spring passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. |
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Myers and Smith Chapel. There will be a private burial.
She was born June 24, 1927, to Hassie Mayfield Clanton and John Alexander Clanton in Howard County. She married Richard C. Thomas, April 8, 1946, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 2005. She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. Mary started working at the Big Spring State Hospital in 1961 as a secretary to the superintendent and obtained her nursing degree in 1983 at Howard College while working as psychiatric supervisor. She served on Borden County ISD school board and was a part of several other organizations. She retired in 1992. Despite her many accomplishments through the years, her primary focus in her life was her family.
Mary is survived by one daughter, Anne Tubb and her husband Donnie of Big Spring; one son, David C. Thomas and wife Anne of Duncanville; six grandsons, Joshua Thomas of Austin, Aaron Thomas and wife Melinda of Austin, Micah Thomas of Austin, Donnie Tubb III and wife Sara Beth of Fresno, Calif., Ariel Thomas of Austin, and Myles Baird of Dallas; five great-grandchildren, Simon Thomas, Seth Thomas, Connor Thomas, Jennifer Tubb, London Thomas; and seven nieces and eight nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John Richard Thomas; and ten brothers and sisters.
