Sam Wells, 95, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with his son, Rev. Bruce Wells, officiating.|
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Sam was born Feb. 11, 1920 in Milen, Ga., to Julian and Jo Ward (Weeks) Wells. While in the United States Air Force, he met Mary Ann Findley. They married Dec. 24, 1943 in Big Spring and she preceded him in death Nov. 14, 1989. He then married Emma Lee Spivey June 25, 1990 and she preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2008.
Sam was a pilot and aircraft mechanic during World War II. He became an aircraft inspector for the Civil Service and was stationed at Webb Air Force Base. He loved to fish and travel and was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Airport Baptist Church.
Sam is survived by his son, Rev. Bruce Wells and wife, Patsy of Central, S.C.; his daughter, Joetta Beck and husband, Bill of Big Spring; two step-sons, Tim Spivey and Roy Lee Spivey, both of Big Spring; one step-daughter, Judy Garner and husband, Richard of Abilene; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Newsom, Justin Newsom, Robert Sloane, Sammy Ferrel, Sammy Spivey, Jacoby Allen, Tristan Allen, Mike Spivey, Chris Spivey, and Will Green.
