Wynona L. Payte, 75, of Burleson, formerly of Big Spring, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.|
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born July 13, 1940, in Dimmitt, Texas and married Wendel Thomas Payte June 2, 1958, in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 2008.
Wynona graduated from Big Spring High School in 1958 and attended Howard College. She worked at Howard College for 20 years and retired as the secretary to the president. She moved to Burleson in 2013.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed to read, quilt, cross stitch, crochet, to play computer games and to bowl. Wynona was a longtime member of the Birdwell Lane Church of Christ and more recently was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Wendy Horton of The Colony, Wakenda Dunlap and husband, Gerald of Big Spring, and Wylene Landrum and husband, Jay of Burleson; one son, Whitney Payte and wife, Brenda, of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by parents, H. L. and Vivilene Duke; and a grandson, Jason Horton.
The family suggests memorials go to Howard College, 1001 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
