Nov. 26, 1925 - Sept. 25, 2014 Allen Jones Tutwiler died Thursday, September 25, 2014. Born November 26, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of Ivey Jones Tutwiler and Julian Brewer Tutwiler. Allen grew up on the Southside of Birmingham and graduated from Ramsey High School. He graduated from the University of Alabama where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Italy during World War II. He was a 40-year member of The Cathedral Church of the Advent. More recently he enjoyed attending both Sunday services at St. Martin's in the Pines. Allen was a member of the Country Club of Birmingham for over 50 years. He served on the Board of Governors for a decade and was president of the Club in 1986. He was a member of the Birmingham Board of Realtors and served as president of the Real Estate Property Managers Association. He was a commissioner of the Mountain Brook Little League baseball teams at John Black field. Allen enjoyed golf with the Two Bit and the Rollers as well as afternoon bridge, both of which kept him alert and active until his death. He was energetic, engaging, loving, and humble. He went into his office several days a week until his death and had great joy being around his loyal employees Noel Tidwell and Donna Griffis. An annual highlight was the Tutwiler Realty Christmas Lunch attended by resident managers and by tradespeople who shared his pleasure in fixing things. His survivors include his wife Lynn Otey Tutwiler, children Murray Tutwiler Priester (Jim) and Allen J. Tutwiler, Jr., and grandchildren Margaret Tutwiler Priester, Lynn Otey Priester, James Davis Priester, Tracy Brewer Tutwiler, and Allen Kelley Tutwiler. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Tutwiler Blalock, his nephew Dr. John Butler Blalock, Jr. (Sandy), and his niece Ann Blalock Lee (Parks). The family will receive visitors at The Cathedral Church of the Advent on Monday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials can be made to The Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203 or the charity of your choice.
