Lowell C. Smith

May 17, 1921 - August 25, 2016 Lowell C. Smith, PH.D., age 85 of Cape Coral, Florida and Clanton, Alabama died August 25, 2016. He was the husband of Annella Trobaugh Smith and of the late Eleanor (Mann) Smith. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Ruth (Hildebrand) Smith. Dr. Smith had been the President of Nichols College, Dudley, Massachusetts for 18 years; concurrently, he was the President of Worcester Junior College and Central New England College of Technology in Worcester, MA. Previously he held academic positions at George Washington University in Washington, DC., Loyola University in New Orleans, LA., Bryant College in Springfield, RI. and Director of the GW University Academic Program at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. Dr. Smith had been a director of Amica Mutual Insurance Company for 22 years. He served on the finance, audit, executive compensation and nominating committees. He held memberships in the Dedaleous Society, the Philadelphia Society, Mont Peldrin Society, Council for National Policy, Heritage Foundation, Blue Key National Honors Fraternity, and Beta Gamma Sigma Scholastic Honorary Business Fraternity, among others. He is retired military Navy Captain of 20 years, and was an airline pilot. He leaves two daughters, Kim Frease (Jerry), of Cape Coral, FL and Allison Mann of Alpharetta, GA; one son Scott Smith of Jackson, LA; three grandchildren Charles Nagle (Veronica) of Cape Coral, FL, Jesse Nagle of Cape Coral, FL and Beverly Schuler (Jonathan) of Cincinnati, OH, and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of Norman Smith (Merinda) of Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Smith was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Clanton, AL. He was affiliated with All Souls Episcopal Church in North Ft. Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 2121, Clanton, AL. 35046, or Servants in Faith and Technology (SIFAT), 2944 County Road 113, Lineville, AL 36266, or to your favorite charity. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 503 Second Avenue South, Clanton, AL 35045 on Monday, August 29, 2016. Visitation will be at 10:00AM, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00AM.
