ELIZABETHTOWN — Lloyd L. Breckenridge Jr., 82, husband of Jane Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington after a brief illness.
Lloyd was born on April 19, 1932. He lived in Elizabethtown for 25 years.
Mr. Breckenridge is survived by his wife, Jane Breckenridge of 57 years; three children, Kim Hiers, Lloyd Breckenridge and Michael Breckenridge; two grandchildren, Kristin Hiers and Bill Hiers; a nephew, Brad Harris and wife, Jamee Harris and great-nephew, Chason Harris, of Bladenboro; and two brothers, Beauford Breckenridge of Kankakee, Ill. and James Fernandez of Clinton, Iowa.
Mr. Breckenridge was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Lay Speaker. He was a member of the Bladen County Masonic Lodge. He had many years of volunteering at Cape Fear Hospital in Elizabethtown. After 23 years of serving his country, he retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He also retired from Xerox Corporation after 16 years of service.
The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, July 22, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Trinity United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary with the Rev. Jay Winston officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Elizabethtown or Bladen County Hospital Auxiliary Services of Elizabethtown.
