BAKER

WHITE LAKE — Retired U.S. Army SSG James W. Baker of White Lake died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013. He was 81 years old.

He is survived by his wife Elva Baker of White Lake; his daughter Bettina and her husband Carl Elliott of Fayetteville; his grandsons Brandon and Christian Elliott also of Fayetteville; his sister-in-law Laura Thrift of VA; niece Regina White of Fayetteville; and niece Cheri Meadowlark of VA; and best friends Joe and Cheryl Smith of White Lake; and long time best friend Don Choate of Alabama.

There was a small private graveside service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 20. There will be a lake side memorial at Clearwater Campground at White Lake on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cliffdale Elementary School or Douglas Byrd High School.
