DURHAM — Rosemary Blake Bostic Allen, 65, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Duke University Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She is predeceased by her father, Henry Hawes Bostic, Sr. and brother, Joe Houghtaling Bostic.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Davis Allen, Jr. of Elizabethtown; mother, Rosa Houghtaling Bostic of Elizabethtown; son, Dr. Charles Davis Allen, III and wife Britt of Asheville; daughter, Julia Blake Allen of Wilmington and fiancé Richard "Sling" Shaw of Elizabethtown; brother Henry Hawes Bostic, Jr. and wife Ann of Charlotte; sisters-in-law Nancy Allen Clark and husband Edward of Elizabethtown and Martha Bostic Lotz and husband Bud of Elizabethtown; five nephews; and several great-nieces and -nephews. In addition, Rosemary is survived by her grandson-to-be, Charles Shane Allen, due in October.

Rosemary was born July 30, 1950 in Lumberton. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1969 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1973.

She met her husband, Dave, in Elizabethtown, and they married August 17, 1969. She taught school in Durham and Elizabethtown before becoming the office manager of her husband's dental practice. Rosemary was an active member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery, taught Sunday school, and served on various committees.

Rosemary was a loving wife and mother who quietly cared for others before herself. She enjoyed watching Carolina sporting events, reading, growing plants, and spending time with her friends and family.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 4 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church. A celebration-of-life service will be held at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary, and a graveside service will follow at the Elizabethtown City Cemetery. The family will also receive friends at the home, located at 265 Teal Road in Elizabethtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabethtown Christian Academy, 1800 W. Broad St., Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
