Lewis Lyda Obituary


FLAT ROCK - Lewis E. Lyda, 67, of Flat Rock, N.C., passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at his home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Lyda and Frances Norris Lyda and his first wife, Betty Edney Lyda.
He graduated from Edneyville High School in 1964, Furman University in 1989, and Southern Wesleyan University in 1991. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, retired from General Electric in 1994, owned and operated Source 1 Filtration and was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church.
He recently enjoyed teaching Karate and had earned his Black Belt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 14 months, Joan McMinn; a daughter, Angela Craft and husband James, of Hendersonville; a son, Barry Lyda and wife Melissa, of Williamston, S.C.; a step-son, Steven McMinn, of Flat Rock; five grandchildren, Brandon Baker, Ben Ward, Austin, MaryEdith and Luke Lyda; three step-grandchildren, Luke, Will and Molly McMinn, several nieces and nephews; his poodle, Teddy and his guinea, Sprint.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Bethel Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Tim Clark, the Rev. Bob Allred and the Rev. Carroll Moffitt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites provided by the Henderson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and at other times will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Bethel Wesleyan Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 268, Dana, N.C. 28724 or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

To Joan and family: There would not be adequate words to describe Lewis, his zest for life and sincere commitment to God, his friends and family. He will be missed beyond measure here but what a wonderful gain for Heavens vast host of Saints. A true soldier of the Cross indeed...! Save us a seat Lewis, we'll all be joining you soon...! This time it will be for an eternity.

Louis, you may not be here to hear what I say in person but I know that you do hear it. We have had so many great times at GC where we have laughed at so many things, and yes, even though you would never admit it you had been in the barrel...lol...you can have all the fried chicken and peach cobbler you heart desires now. we will miss you for sure.........

Lewis, you will be missed by the Class of '64 Edneyville High School classmates. He did a great job in helping to organize the 43rd class reunion a few yrs back. The family is in all of our prayers. We shall meet again in the future where there is no pain or sorrow.
