Arlene M. Strickland

HENDERSONVILLE - Arlene Martin Strickland, 88, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Spring Arbor West in Hendersonville. A native of South Bend, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Ross J. and Leona Fickensher Martin.
She was a practical nurse and bookkeeper for several medical offices in Northport, Long Island, N.Y., where she and her husband, Henry, lived from 1948 until retiring to Etowah in 1973. Mrs. Strickland was an active member of Etowah United Methodist Church and a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Etowah Public Library, as well as several other volunteer organizations. She was a Deacon and sang in the choir for many years with the first Presbyterian Church in Northport.
Her husband, Henry Austin Strickland, predeceased her in 2005.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her son, Ross, and his wife, Barbara, and two grandsons, Greg, Brian and his wife, Kerry, and a great-granddaughter, Carly.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 10 at the Etowah United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Auten will officiate.
