Barbara Harrington Dillon
HENDERSONVILLE- Barbara Harrington Dillon passed away in the early morning hours of February 19, 2013 in Hendersonville, NC. Barbara had lived in Carolina Village for many years after retiring in Hendersonville in the mid 1970's.
Barbara was born in Natick, Massachusetts on November 8, 1925 as the third child and second daughter of Ralph and Bernice Harrington. Barbara and her husband at the time, Mr. John Allen Dillon, followed her mother and father and her older brother, the late Arthur D. Harrington, II to Hendersonville to be close to family and to enjoy her retirement in the Four Seasons community.
Barbara was a graduate of State Teachers College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She worked for most of her career in the Washington, DC area and was an avid enthusiast of American history. Barbara was an active member of the Joseph McDowell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Hendersonville and was very proud of her documented heritage tracing back to ancestors who fought in the Revolution. Barbara was also a member of the District of Columbia Order of the Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter #17.
Barbara is survived by her younger brother Norman Harrington who resides in Barre, Massachusetts and many nephews and nieces along with numerous other extended family members with whom she was well known for her prolific efforts at staying in touch with each of them.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Carolina Village at 1:00pm on Friday, March 8, 2013. The family requests memorials be sent to either Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 381 Prince Rd., Hendersonville, NC 28792-2930.
