Elizabeth O. Leslie

HENDERSONVILLE - Elizabeth O. Leslie, 91, of Hendersonville, NC was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, March 22, 2013 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Josephine Capps Owenby, two brothers, Butler and Herbert Parley Owenby, a sister, Iva Wegener and a son, Mike Leslie.
Through the years the Leslies owned and operated, Mikes Hobby Shop, Leslie's Grocery and Texaco and Leslie's Laundry on the busy bend of Kanuga. She was the oldest active member of West Hendersonville Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for more than 55 years, served as Sunday School Secretary for over 30 years and worked on many other church committees.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara R. Drake and her husband William "Bill" of Hendersonville; two sisters, Florence Guice of Hendersonville and Betty Haggard of Earlysville, VA; a sister-in-law, Alice Owenby of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Jeff Drake and his wife, Phyllis of Hendersonville; a granddaughter, Jennifer Drake of Hendersonville; a great grandson, Zac of Hendersonville; two great granddaughters, Brittany and Kayla Maybin of Hendersonville and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at West Hendersonville Baptist Church with Rev. Tracy Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Hendersonville Baptist Church Fellowship Building Fund, 730 Willow Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Life Care and Pine Park for the kindness and care given to our mother. A special thanks to Katie Inman and the staff at Sunnybrook Assisted Living for their excellent care and kindness shown to our mother and us.
As our mother would say, "Thank you, I love you"
Elizabeth's favorite bible verse was II Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
