John McBride

HENDERSONVILLE - John McBride, 79, of Hendersonville, died Friday, February 1, at the Elizabeth House. Born in Attica, Ind., he was a son of the late Arden O. and Eva Hutchins McBride. Raised in Danville, Ill., he had lived in Glen Burnie, Md. for many years prior to moving to Hendersonville 20 years ago. He received his BA from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. and his Masters from Illinois Wesleyan University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He taught chemistry in Maryland for 30 years, including night classes at Anne Arundel Community college in Arnold, MD. He served as chairman of the science department for the Anne Arundel County school system. He was on the school board at Glen Burnie and was a wrestling coach and referee at Andover High School in Linthicum, MD. A devout Christian, he was deacon, song leader, Sunday school superintendent and state director of AWANA clubs in Maryland. He was a member of Etowah Baptist Church.
Mr. McBride is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Doris J. McBride; two sons, Rev. Bruce A. McBride and his wife Judith and Col. Terry L. McBride and his wife Becky; three daughters, Janice Boone and her husband Tim, Eva J. Rosner and her husband Chuck and Beth A. Barber and her husband Brian; fourteen grandchildren, Joshua, JoyAnna, John R., Josiah, Andrew, Aaron and Caitlin McBride; Nathan, Nevin, Niles and Natalie Rosner; Emma Hope and Luke Barber and Joseph Boone; several nieces and nephews and his devoted Yorkie, Charlie.
A funeral will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, at Etowah Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce A. McBride, Col. Terry L. McBride, Chaplain, U.S. Army, Afghanistan, Rev. Brian Henderson and Rev. Dr. Buddy Mullinax will officiate. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park with military honors rendered by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post #5206 and Chapter 14 of the DAV. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday at Etowah Baptist Church.
