HENDERSONVILLE – Cree S. Dawson, 75, of Laurel Park, NC passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 in Houston, TX. He was the son of the late Col. Wallace and Margaret Dawson. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra Dawson, his children, Victoria Dawson, and Andrew Cree Dawson, his daughter-in-law, Meghan Dawson, his brother Charles P. Dawson, and a grandson.
Cree graduated with a BSEE from the University of Florida with highest honors, received an MSEE from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a PhD from New York University and an Executive MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. He served in a wide variety of Bell Laboratories R&D and AT&T executive management assignments during his 36 year career in both Holmdel, NJ and Washington, D.C. As Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Government Markets, he was responsible for the implementation and operation of very large communication systems for the federal government.
Cree and Sandy relocated to Laurel Park after having visited the area for nearly 20 years. As a "full-time" retiree he became an avid bridge player in Western NC Unit #171 achieving Bronze Life Master status. He was also active in the Opportunity House and thoroughly enjoyed NC mountain life, especially the BBQ. He always maintained "I wasn't born in North Carolina, but I got here as soon as I could!"
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation (www.aamds.org).
