BREVARD–Dr. Robert Richard Glesener, 66, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at his residence.

A native of Chicago, IL, he was the son of Richard F. and June K. Glesener of Orlando, FL.
Dr. Glesener was a graduate of both the University of Maryland and the University of Michigan. His love for salamanders and the mountains brought him to the Brevard area where he taught at Brevard College for 26 years. It was here that he started the BC Recycling Program and the White Squirrel Count. He was director and founder of the Brevard White Squirrel Institute. Dr. Glesener won several awards for his photography and he loved the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jennie T. Glesener; daughters, Traci Higgins and husband Jason of Horse Shoe and Stefani Wilmoth and husband Dorrian of Hendersonville; son, Timothy Glesener of Brevard; Step-daughter, Alicia Freeman Le and husband John of Brevard; step son, Dr. Robert Freeman and wife Niyati of Cary; brother, Ron Glesener and wife Jaye of San Aselmo, CA; sister, Kathi Snook and husband Bill of Orlando, FL; mother-in-law, Betty D. Honeycutt of Brevard; Godmother, June Mayhew of Pisgah Forest; grandchildren, Crayton Higgins, Nikole Higgins, Kaelyn Wilmoth, Keira Wilmoth; step-grandchildren, Korey Lovett and Dean Freeman.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at 2 PM in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Assoc., 49 Pisgah Hwy, Suite 4, Pisgah Forest, NC 28768.
