HENDERSONVILLE-Gordon R. Peterson of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8. He was 88 years old. Gordon was a 20-year resident of the city, enjoying all aspects of its civil, social and spiritual life with his wife of 33 years, Emily. He was active in his church, local politics and enjoyed the company of their many friends in Hendersonville.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to immigrant parents who raised him until he entered the Navy at 17. Gordon served three years during World War II; most notably during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. Following his honorable discharge at the end of the war, he entered the University of Minnesota and earned a BA in History with a minor in Journalism. Gordon became a reporter for the Associated Press, where he was employed for 17 years, starting in Pierre, South Dakota; moving to Fargo, North Dakota, and finally transferring to Minneapolis with his first wife, Evelyn, and their three sons. Gordon continued his career with Honeywell and 3M, working with advertising and marketing operations until his retirement. He retired with Emily, first to Naples, Florida, before discovering Hendersonville in 1992.
Gordon is preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (married 28 years), son, Todd and brother, Lawrence. He is succeeded in life by wife, Emily, sons Dirk (Marilyn) and Scott (Marsha), Emily's children, Don (Linda), Richard (Inta), Gary (Kris), Bonnie (Mark), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, 204 Sixth Avenue West, February 14, 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Solace Committee Bereavement or of your choice. A reception in the Gettman Room, after the service.
