HENDERSONVILLE-Joan Browning Bender Anderson, age 90 passed away at Four Seasons Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC on November 21, 2013. She was born in Toledo, Ohio to the late Adelaide Lockhart and Justus McKnight Browning. She attended DeVilbiss High School and Indiana University where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 2 loving husbands, Richard Siva Bender and Roland Frederick Anderson, her grandson, Brett Richard Kortright and her brother, Robert W. "Peter" Browning. Survivors include her sons Bruce (Peggy) Bender, Eric (Jeanne) Bender, daughter Nancy (Mark) Kortright, grandchildren, Meghan (Mike) Parsons, Courtney (Mike) Liggera, Keegan and Kevin Kortright, Brooke (Zach) Kaskey, Katelyn and Justin Bender, 4 great-grandchildren and her brother John Coe Browning. She will be remembered as a great entertainer and hostess, a wonderful cook, a devoted wife and mother and a superb grandmother.
She enjoyed playing bridge, skiing, golfing, traveling, sewing, knitting, spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Her love of travel included living in Paris, France for 3 years where her husband Richard was the first Director of Sales for Ford of France. Prior to starting her family in the course of her modeling career she was the original model for Willys-Overland Jeep during WW11. Her many club affiliations included Imperial CC and Royal Poinciana CC in Naples, FL and the Skaneateles CC and Onondaga CC in New York. She also enjoyed many volunteer hours for various charities throughout the years.
A Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on December 12th at 2:00 at Lake Pointe Landing, 333 Thompson St., Hendersonville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Four Seasons Elizabeth House Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
