John C. Olsen passed away at his home in New Jersey on February 26, following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Atlanta, John grew up in Hendersonville, son of the late Olie and Dottie Olsen. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a submariner for four years. He went on to work for the Hartford Insurance Group and later Heublein, Inc. John moved with his family to NJ in 1977 when appointed sales manager. When he retired, he worked in real estate. John, a voracious reader and avid sports fan, spend good times with his family in Old Lyme Shores, CT, and also enjoyed travel, poker, Jeopardy, and cooking Buffalo wings. Surviving are John's wife of forty-four years, Kathy Olsen, a son Jay Olsen of Orange Park, FL, a daughter Melissa Landon of Wilmington, NC, three grandsons, Riley, Luke, Zachary, a sister Mary Ann Olsen of Beaufort, NC, and a sister Lori Blakely of Old Hickory, TN.
