Katherine "Kitty" Lorena Stone Longacre, 89, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Hendersonville, NC. Born in Baton Rouge, LA on January 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Archibald "CA" and Lorena Stone. As members of what many have called the greatest generation, she and her late husband Lloyd Allen Longacre, a Second World War veteran of the Pacific Fleet, were married for 56 years until his passing in 2004. A kind-hearted and gentle soul, Kitty grew up in Baton Rouge, attended Louisiana State University, and was an avid Tiger fan. Her lifetime interests included playing bridge, hiking through the mountains of Western North Carolina and, of course, dancing (jitter bug, square dancing, and clogging). Her journey through life with her husband and family led her to enjoy many lasting friendships in Wilmington, DE, Raleigh, NC, and ultimately upon retirement in Hendersonville, NC. She is survived by a brother CA Stone Jr. of Houston, TX, son Keith Allen Longacre of Atlanta, GA and daughter Sherri Lorene Longacre of Newark, DE, and four wonderful grandchildren; including a young adult, Shane Patrick White. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blythe St, Hendersonville, NC. 28791. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Care Center of Hendersonville, 400 Thompson St. Hendersonville, NC 28792.
