BREVARD-Paul William Baker Sr. age 92, of Brevard died Friday July 26, 2013. He was born Pitcarin Pa., to the late Wallace Howard Baker and Mary Bernice DeGraff Baker. His father was a Lutheran minister, who served as a pastor at several churches. |
Mr. Baker was an accomplished athlete at Sulphur Springs High School in Ohio. He was the center on the basketball team and starred in several events in track and field, including the high jump, pole vault, high hurdles and the 100 yard dash. He served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat. He graduated from Ohio State University and moved to Brevard from Los Angeles in 1958. He worked as a Chemical engineer at Ecusta until his retirement.
He was an active member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard since 1958 and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved playing golf, bowling, playing bridge and watching the Atlanta Braves., Retired from the Olin Corporation and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife Marguerite, Three sons; Paul William (Bill) Baker Jr., Ben Firestone Baker and Timothy Howard Baker, three daughters; Linda Lee Latherow, Laura Jo Stasko and Jill Marie Hutson, two sisters; Jean Reed and Phyllis Ritenour, nine grandchildren; Christopher, Kate Hannah, Kevin, Michael, Elizabeth, Anna Marie, Zachary and Ryan and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday July 30, 2013 at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard conducted by Pastor Mary Shore.
