HENDERSONVILLE-Mr. William "Bill" Forrest McEntire, 88, of Hendersonville, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013.

Born in Clemson, SC, Mr. McEntire was the son of Arles and Vera Chapman McEntire. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served during World War II. He was an avid supporter of the North Carolina Apple Festival for 67 years and was actively involved with over 50 of these historical events. Mr. McEntire served as the Grand Marshall in the 2009 King Apple Parade. After 2009, he stepped down from most of his Festival activities, but still attended each year. At the 2013 Festival he was recognized and honored as a lifetime staff member. He called The Hendersonville Square Dances on Main St. for 54 years. Many of you may remember him as "The Square Dancer". He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and enjoyed playing BINGO. Mr McEntire also dressed as Santa at many events for nearly 10 years. He most enjoyed dropping off small gifts to the pediatric ward at Pardee over Christmas. Mr. McEntire was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Annette Keeter, and brothers; Dean, Johnny, Felton, and Sanford.
Mr. McEntire is survived by his son, David McEntire, daughters, Lisa Cooper (John), Sharon McManus (Thomas), brothers; Luke, David, Zane, and Walden, grandchildren; Kristie Gilliam, Ramona Seegars, Susan Doss, Elizabeth Russell, Auburn Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Mason Cooper, Forest "Woody" McEntire, Davida Laughter, Brandon McEntire, Lindsay McEntire, 14 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
