Alton Dayton Snyder Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-Alton Dayton Snyder of Hendersonville, NC, passed away, February 16th, with his wife and children by his side. Alton "Dayton" was born in Springwater, NY on February 19, 1923 to Charles Lewis Snyder and Dasie Pearl Glover. When he was 2 years old, his family moved to north Florida near Palatka and then to Ocala. He graduated from Ocala High School, and then moved to Miami, FL in 1942.
Dayton graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and was a well-respected engineer in the Miami area until his retirement in 1996.He was a Professional Engineer in the states of Florida and Maryland and was a Fellow and Life Member of the Florida Engineering Society, member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Illuminating Engineering Society, and Association of Energy Engineers. He also was Certified Energy Manager as well as a Construction Arbitrator for the American Arbitrator Association.
Dayton and his wife Mary moved to Hendersonville upon retirement. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and for years was a member of The Gideons International where he served as Treasurer of the Hendersonville camp.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary (Mehalko) Snyder, son David Snyder, wife, Cheryl of Tamarac, FL daughters, Suzanne Bodley, husband, Eric of Bonita Springs, FL and Sharon Snyder of Smyrna, GA, grandsons, David Snyder, wife, Sam, Christopher and Daniel Bodley, granddaughters, Melissa Snyder and Deanna Bodley and three great grandsons, Dante, Dominic and Drake Snyder, sister Gerry Leslie of Little Rock, AR and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Dayton will be held Saturday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Magnet officiating. Burial will follow the service in Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Dayton was well loved and will be truly missed, but we take great comfort in knowing he is in his heavenly home with his Savior Jesus and loved ones who preceded him in death.
