1915 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
HENDERSONVILLE- Anna Dorothy (Dot) Moody, 97 of Hendersonville, died Monday May 13, 2013 at Pardee Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Born and raised in Hendersonville December 19, 1915 to her parents, Benjamin L and Maggie Flynn Whitaker. Dorothy went to Hendersonville High School and married Midge Moody in 1932. They were married until he died in 1982. Dorothy and "Sunbeam" (Midge) moved to Balfour and worked at the Berkley Mill until they both retired and bought the home she currently lives in. Dorothy was well known for her love of gardening, cooking and dancing. Anyone that knew Dorothy knows that she was "born to dance" she has been going dancing every Friday night at "The Barn" in South Mills River for years. She was on the dance floor the night before her heart attack. She had rebounded after other heart attacks but this time she succumbed to the inevitable. She was an enigma being 97 and living alone in her own home until her final days.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gene Moody and his wife Irene Orr Moody; two brothers, Hubert & Jack Whitaker and one sister, Lois Tinsley. She is survived by her her daughter, Joyce Moody Gordon and her husband, Lee of Horse Shoe; five grandchildren, Chris Gordon, Ronnie Gordon, Carol Gordon, Jeffrey Gene Moody and Mandy Moody; several great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Connor of Hendersonville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel with burial to follow. Dorothy's nephew, Pastor Ken Whitaker, will officiate. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
The family will host friends at 103 Carolyn Drive, Hendersonville after the burial.
