AnnaRuth "Ann" (Dunlap) Stanley Obituary
FLAT ROCK - AnnaRuth (Ann) Stanley, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning at the Elizabeth House. She was a cancer victim. She had been in declining health for several years. Ann and her loving husband of 39 years, Col. William T. (Bill) Stanley, USAF (Ret) have resided at 15 Delacy Dr. in Hendersonville since 1993. They came from Melbourne, Florida to start the Air Force Junior ROTC program at East Henderson High School that year.
Ann was born in Dickerson Run, PA on September 16, 1928 to Eugene C. Dunlap and Pauline (Dye) Dunlap, both deceased. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Dunlap and George Dunlap of Dickerson Run, PA and her only son, David Marko of Connellsville, PA. She graduated from Dunbar Township High School, PA and The Durbin Secretarial School of Connellsville, PA. She was married to and divorced from John Marko, now deceased.
Ann was a dedicated Christian lady and was an active member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church (ARP) since 1994 where she served as a leader in the Women of the Church organization and Circle 4. She was also an active member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Air Force Association.
Ann and Bill were married April 30, 1976 at the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL. They met at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. where Ann was the executive secretary to the Deputy Director of Plans & Policy for the Air Staff. Following their marriage she served as a government services secretary for several high level Air Force Officers at Air Force installations in Europe and the United States as Bill was serving on active duty in the Air Force. She also was the secretary for Regional Director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of the Public Health Service in Morgantown, West Virginia. She retired from civil service in 1987 in Phoenix, AZ.
Ann is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, of the home; daughter-in-law Karen Marko of Connellsville, PA, sister-in-law Dorothy Dunlap of Dickerson Run, PA, grandson David Marko and wife Rebecca, of Roaring Spring, PA, granddaughter Kensie Porterfield and husband Andy of Greensburg, PA, and grandson Derek Marko and wife Heidi of Connellsville, PA. Also stepdaughters: Louise Ann Hadsell and husband Dr. Darryl of Houston, TX, Melisa Stepp and husband CWO-5 Keith, USA (Ret) of Phoenix, AZ, and Lindy Owens and husband Dave of Peoria, AZ. Also grandchildren, Sarah and Martin Hadsell of Houston, Dale Stepp of Phoenix, and Kayla Owens, of Peoria. She also has seven great grandchildren: Logan, Britton, and Sophia Marko of Roaring Spring; DeLaney and Hayden Porterfield of Greensburg, and Sadie and Piper Marko of Connellsville.
A memorial service will be held at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, 1790 Greenville Highway, Flat Rock, NC 28731 at 3 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2015 with Rev. Rhett Carson assisted by Dr. Chuck Evans officiating. Interment will be at Black Mountain Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pinecrest Presbyterian Church general fund.
