Arthur Raymond Hudson, 88, of Naples Fl., died December 15, 2013 at The Tuscany Villa retirement facility.
He was born to the late Earl R. and Lucia M. Hudson, May 8, 1925, in Miami Fl. Ray graduated from Miami Edison High School and shortly thereafter entered the US Army Air Corps. He was trained as a fighter pilot achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant and at the end of WWII was honorably discharged.
Ray was an Electrical Contractor in Hendersonville for many years. He also operated Adult Care homes in Hendersonville and Western North Carolina for over thirty years.
He was a member of the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church and participated in the building of several churches in the area.
Ray had a burden to serve the spiritual needs of the incarcerated and was active in bringing religious services to inmates for several decades. He was a lay minister serving at both the former NC Prison Camp in Henderson County and later at the NC Craggy Correctional Center in Buncombe County. He was instrumental in the formation of the Carolina Prison Ministries of the SDA church and an active local participant with Blue Ridge Prison and Jail Ministries in Henderson County.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Carithers Hudson, of Naples; two children, Arthur Hudson and JoAnne Hudson, of Hendersonville; one grandchild, Raymond Craig Hudson of Waimea, Hi.; three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Ray's name to the Hendersonville Seventh-day Church or the "It Is Written" Television Ministries in Thousand Oaks, California.
A memorial service will be held January 18, at 3:00 PM at the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist church on Highway 25 North in Hendersonville NC.
