Betty Jean Webber, Fletcher, NC, passed January 18, 2013. Betty Jean was an active member for more than 55 years in the business women's sorority Beta Sigma Phi. She helped establish chapters in both New Philadelphia and Columbus, OH, and later belonged to Hendersonville, NC chapters.
Born in Rennerdale, PA, July 9, 1919, Betty Jean was married to the late Earl E. Webber, a 40+ year civil engineer with the U.S. Geological Survey in Columbus, OH.
She is survived by three children, Kennon (Brenda), Asheville, NC; Jeffrey Thomas (Aimee), Concord, NC; Susan Marie Vail, Oakland, CA; three grandchildren, Lori Urena-Webber (Luis), Davis, CA; Lisa Anne Webber, Oakland, CA; Brett Sterba, Denver, CO; and two great-grand children, Skyler Switzer, San Marcos, CA; and Christina Webber-Urena, Davis, CA.Betty Jean, "BJ" or "Granny B" as she was known to friends and family, loved animals, especially dogs, taught craft-making classes, and wrote a column, entitled "Ramblings," for the delight of friends throughout the USA. Her love of travel took her to all 50 states as well as to England and Africa. Early on a frosty Friday morning Betty Jean began her last journey, passing, as she often said, to "The Great Beyond."
A gathering of family, friends, neighbors, and sorority sisters to remember her will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, 41 Southchase Drive, Fletcher, NC. Per her request, ice cream and cake will be served.
In her final weeks, Betty's comfort and care were greatly enhanced by CarePartners Health Services.
