Betty Johnson Obituary
Betty Lee Garrett Johnson, age 77 of Hendersonville passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 at the Elizabeth House. She was born June 3rd, 1939 in Henderson County; a daughter of the late Carl Luther Garrett and Eunice Sue Townsend Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack D. Johnson, Sr. and her son, Jack D. Johnson, Jr. in March of 2015.
She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville and of the Alma Lee Cheves Sunday school class.
Mama Betty was a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a talented pianist who read music and played by ear. She served as the pianist at Refuge Baptist Church starting at age 6. She was a skilled seamstress who made her daughter's prom and bridesmaids dresses. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, canning, baking and was known for her home cooked meals. She was devoted to caring for her family including keeping her precious grandchildren. She was always available. Her great-grandchildren were a source of pride and joy during her last five years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy J. Griffin and Karla J. Raxter and her husband, Greg; one son, Jeff Johnson and his wife, Deana all of Hendersonville; seven grandchildren, Garrett Griffin and his wife, Sadie of Florida, Mandi Hester and her husband, Jason of Georgia, Amy Beth Martin, Adam Johnson, Austin Johnson, Megan Raxter and Erin Raxter all of Hendersonville; six great-grandchildren, Tripp Martin of Hendersonville, twins, Atlee and Liam Johnson of the Charlotte area, Eli Hester of Georgia and Ellie and Mollie Griffin of Florida. She is also survived by one sister, Martha Ward; and in-laws, Nancy Harrelson and Whitt and Betty Jo Johnson; and lots of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 8th, 2016 in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville officiated by the Reverend Dr. Mark Ralls and Reverend Dan Martin.
The family will receive friends and hold a celebration of life reception immediately following the service in the Barber Center.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9th, 2016 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by her nephew, Pastor Freddy Johnson.
