Fair Play-- Cecil Cowan Benson, 77, husband of Kathryn Davis Benson, of 170 Sherry Lane, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Fellowship Health and Rehab of Anderson.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Samuel Wilson and Ruby Viola Hensley Benson. He was the owner of Benson Farm Supply of Walhalla and retired from Ecusta Paper Corp. in Brevard, NC. Mr. Benson was a member of South Union Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was active in mission work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Benson was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Cecil Darren Benson (Karen) of Hendersonville, NC; daughters, Darlene Benson Cohen (Eric) of Anderson, and Joan Benson Le Gloahec (Eric) of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Harley Benson of Hendersonville, NC; sister, Beatrice Benson Pratt also of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Kristen Benson Hill (Justin), Stephanie Benson Vasil (Jared), Jacob Wayne Benson, Taylor Nicole Clark, Eric Andrew Le Gloahec, and Matthew Cowan Le Gloahec; great – grandchildren, Aubrey Elaina Lynn Vasil, Thomas Foxx Vasil, and Levi Wyatt Hill. Upon his marriage to Kathryn he was also blessed with step-children and grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Betty Elaine Nix Benson, he is preceded in death by his brother, David Thomas Benson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at South Union Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 -2 at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Darlene Cohen, 108 Cherokee Circle, Anderson, SC. 29621. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 -5216, or the South Union Baptist Church, 410 S.
