Charles Blanton McClain Obituary
Charles Blanton McClain, 84, of Franklin, NC passed away May 5, 2016 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Charles was born in Saluda, NC to the late Blanton Garnett McClain and Lila Mae Ward McClain Morgan on January 20, 1932. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Ann McGaha McClain and his siblings, Marilyn Orr, Jack McClain and Bobby McClain.
Sergeant First Class McClain retired from the Army in 1975 as an Army Recruiter in Independence, KS. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He served his country proudly and over his career lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Montana, Kansas, and Germany. He loved the mountains of North Carolina and enjoyed driving though the countryside the "old way". Charles loved to fly fish, hunt pheasant, work in his yard, and he enjoyed washing and waxing his cars. He loved his children and grandchildren and would often share photos with friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay McClain Cunha and husband Jon, of Franklin, NC; his son, Victor McClain and wife Laura of Natchitoches, LA; five grandchildren, Kenny Dixon of Branson, MO, Krissy Anderson of Georgetown, TX, Jon Cunha of Mesa, AZ, Amanda McClain Kunec of Tomball, TX and Keegan McClain of Lafayette, LA; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2pm Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 538 Tracy Grove Road, Hendersonville, NC. Rev. Sherrill Moore will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
