Charles "Chas" Fritz Obituary
Flat Rock-- Charles "Chas" Fritz, age 59, passed away unexpectedly Thursday January 7th, 2016 at his home in Flat Rock, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his younger sister Nancy in 1974.
He was born July 26th, 1956 in La Grange, Illinois to William and Edie McNamara Fritz. Chas was a graduate of Hinsdale Central High School 1974 where he still holds the men's basketball all-time assist record. As a high school All-American, he was recruited to Iowa State and then transferred to the University of Florida where he had a successful college basketball career with the Gators. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Finance in 1978; he then received his Master of Business Administration from Rollins College in 1979.
In 1978, he married the love of his life, Laurie Wiebe Fritz and they began their Christian union centered in their faith in Jesus Christ and the love of family.
Chas started his career at IBM and with his entrepreneurial spirit he founded several companies. His generosity and loving spirit are what most people will remember him by. He loved being involved with church youth groups and organizations like Young Life. Throughout his life, until just days before his passing, he loved both playing and coaching basketball. He always managed to mentor and share Jesus with kids on and off the court. Through Young Life he took basketball teams to share the gospel in Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Most recently, he had the honor of coaching the Asheville Trailblazers High School Varsity Boys team to two state titles.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife Laurie, parents Bill and Edie; sister Debra Schiafone; brother Chandler Fritz; his four children: Brett, Tanner, Tyler and Paige Stuckey and their spouses, and his nine grandchildren whom he adored.
Chas was a man about God's Kingdom, and the depth of the impact he had on others will never truly be known.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 16,2016 at 10:30AM at Grace Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church located at 109 Florence Street Hendersonville, NC 28792.
