Christine Denise Basnett Obituary
Christine Denise Basnett
Christine Hinrich Bas-nett , 90 years young, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning July 31, 2018.
She was born in London England. Experiencing some of the worst bomb-ings by the German blitz in WWII, she was one of the two million children evacuated into the Eng-land countryside by the British government. Later returning to London to work and help her family, she would schedule her paper route to avoid the afternoon buzz bombs sent by Germany over the Brit-ish capital. Her upbring-ing in England, as well as the experiences she en-dured during that time in history helped to make her the strong, independent, and self-sufficient woman she was. Marrying an American soldier and coming to the United States in 1952, she utilized her 'Dunkirk Spirit' to be-come very successful in real estate in California, Florida, and finally North Carolina.
Before her divorce from her first husband, she was blessed with four children from that marriage. She was preceded in death by her last husband, Robert Basnett who passed away in 2007.
She leaves behind all four of her adult children: Michael Klepp from Hen-dersonville NC, the twins, Brian Klepp from Rock Hill SC and Debbie Pirtle from Pisgah Forest NC, and Andy Klepp from Swannanoa NC. Christine was also very close to her daughter- in-law, Teresa Klepp, and son-in-law Scott Pirtle, whom she loved like her own. She also leaves behind her younger sister Shelagh Tillot, a close companion who has lived with her for years, assisting Christine very much in her later years. She also leaves be-hind the eight grandchil-dren she genuinely adored, Dayna Gardella, Megan DeSelms, Justin Klepp, Malcolm Klepp, Mathew Klepp, Cindy Rogers, Michael Klepp, and Jonah Klepp. Equally loved and adored were her eleven great grandchil-dren.
Christine Basnett lived a very active and full life. She loved her gardens and enjoyed the pleasure of regularly working in them at her home. Traveling was her passion as well. She was fortunate enough to have seen much of the world, traveling to her home country of Great Britain consistently and enjoying a trip to the Mediterranean even as re-cently as May 2018.
She became a committed Christian in 1981, and has had a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ since then. She was a dedicated member of the Mills River Presbyterian Church, a church she loved and served, and considered her pastor Randall Boggs and his mother, the late Jean Boggs some of her closest friends, as well as Jeannie Hardin.
A very generous person, Christine gladly sponsored three South American children through the Gua-temala Scholarship Fund at her church. In lieu of flowers it is requested that any memoriam be designated to Mills River Presbyterian for the Gua-temala Fund.
A memorial service is being held at Mills River Presbyterian church on Saturday, August 25 at 1:00pm.
Christine Basnett will certainly be missed by all those who have loved her over the years, and by all those whose lives she has touched.
