HENDERSONVILLE - Clarence Miller King, 89, of Hendersonville died Friday, February 20, 2015, at Sunny Brook Assisted Living. He was the eldest son of the late Johnnie E. and Deborah Stepp King. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred K. Griffith and Marcine K. Huntley.
Mr. King was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. He attended Dana High School and later was a bus driver for the school.
Clarence was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His trade was carpentry, and he built many houses in the area. He loved music and often entertained friends with his "left hand" banjo and harmonica. Clarence was also an avid gardener.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Smith King of Hendersonville; his two sons Dickie H. King and his wife, Kathy, and Gary K. King and his wife, Kathy, all of Edneyville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother, Horace J. King, and two sisters, Addie K. Cox and Yvonne K. Burrell, also survive him.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Refuge Baptist Church's Family Life Center.
