Obituary Condolences

HENDERSONVILLE-Clyde A. Henderson, 82, born August 22, 1932 in Hot Springs, Madison County, North Carolina passed to a new life on December 8th, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mr. Henderson grew up in Bluff, NC, and the Berkeley Mill Village of Hendersonville. He began working in the Berkley Mill until he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean conflict. After his discharge, he worked in the Berkley Mill briefly, then began work in the GE plant that opened in Hendersonville, NC. From his first weeks at GE, he made it a point to learn how to do many jobs in the plant and always said "Yes" when asked to fill in. He took every opportunity to move into more challenging positions, which increased his hourly wage. That persistence to work and earn allowed him to purchase five acres, build a home, and raise seven children on his wage alone, together with the hard work and help of his late wife Mary Corn Henderson.
"Daddy" was only a call away for many who asked his advice, called on him for help with car or home repairs, or assistance with life's everyday problems. He lived his life with tremendous curiosity driving him to learn about everything that came into his day. He mastered building, woodwork, farming, winemaking, and numerous stringed musical instruments. He majored in anything mechanical, including building his own dune buggy, which he famously drove across Hendersonville to work for years. He loved tinkering in his garage, a fascinating mini-museum of tiny curio, tools, and machines. Most important to Daddy was knowing that his family was safe and well cared for. He spent his life working and caring, leaving a legacy that with love and hard work anything is possible.
He is survived by his children: Derek and Donieca Henderson, Donna(Henderson) Blue, Quay Henderson, Roy and Teresa Henderson, and Mark Henderson, all of Hendersonville; Kim (Henderson) and Richard Clay,of Sarasota, Florida; and Joe Henderson,of Greer, South Carolina.
He is also survived by his 25 grandchildren and great grandchildren: Joshua and Nikki Henderson, Leila, Analee, and Levi; Holly (Henderson) and Cain Murray, Isabella and Wesley; Diana (Henderson) and John Ballard, Samuel and Avery; Jeremy and Jonathan Stepp, Mason Stepp; Sophie Henderson; and Isaac Henderson, all of Hendersonville; Dan and Courtney Clay, and Loren, of Olympia, Washington; Erin (Clay) and Joel Thayer, Sadie and Simon, of Port Charlotte, Florida; Kristin Clay and Tor Guttormsen, of Gothenborg, Sweden; Alex, Cole, Tori, and Baylee Henderson of Greer, South Carolina.
