Edna A. DeMorest Obituary
Edna A. DeMorest went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 2, 2018 after an Alzheimers related decline in health at Cardinal Care Center where she has been a resident for the past three years.
Edna was born on November 26, 1928 and grew up in Onaway, MI, one of seven children of Alfred and Alice Bailey Tennant. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Myron, Clyde, Norman and Harold Tennant and by her husband, Roy Charles DeMorest.
Four years after their marriage, on December 21, 1948, they moved to the Lansing, MI area where Charles was employed by Oldsmobile. Edna was a stay at home mother to their four children during their early childhood. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing and making crochet items which are still cherished by family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening. Her Scotch/Irish roots and Christian faith came through in her strong work ethic, as she helped her husband fulfill his dream of owning their own farm. To supplement the family income, she was employed for 20 years as a printing press operator at the John Henry Company.
Their retirement in 1983 took them on a wonderful journey of eight years of travel while living in Ojai, CA, reuniting with family friends from 40 years earlier. Health concerns and family in different states resulted in their moving to Hendersonville, NC in 1992. With fond memories of the mountains and her favorite views of the Pacific Ocean, she adapted to loving the NC mountains and enjoyed taking friends and family on tours, even after her husband passed away on January 31, 2004. She remained active attending several local Baptist churches, sewing at the Opportunity House, and volunteering for the Council on Aging Thrift Store.
Survivors are: daughter, Carolyn Serrano and husband, Ed of Hendersonville, NC; sons, Roger DeMorest and wife, Maggie of Mooresville, NC, Douglas DeMorest and Sheila of Hendersonville, NC and Dennis DeMorest and wife Joyce of Burleson, TX; grandchildren, Thomas DeMorest and wife Judy of Keller, TX, Malary DeMorest of Ft. Meyers, FL, Crystal Kane of Saginaw, MI; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Piechowiak of St. Charles, MI, Mert Tobin and husband Ed of Waynesville, NC; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Mills officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Many thanks to the director and staff of Cardinal Care Center and Dr. Sausan Campbell and Hospice for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28731.
