Eldon Wayne Smith Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-Eldon Wayne Smith, came into this world on March 25, 1929, born the fourth child of William Wade and Bessie Dobbins Smith and spent his childhood in Alexander, now called Forest City.
Eldon was always busy at work of some kind, as a young man he shined shoes at a local Barber Shop, worked for Holland's Grocery Store, had a paper route and drove a school bus for the county school system. He graduated from Cool Springs High School in the Class of 1947 and served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He then went to work for Duke Power Company in Cliffside where he was Chief Clerk of the office for twenty years. On June 8, 1951 he married Doris Jeanne Smith, the girl next door and their union brought them two sons, Stephen F. Smith and Kent B. Smith. Eldon was a loving husband and a wonderful father and always wanted to do something for others.
He enjoyed computers later in life and this became his hobby after retiring from Interior Design in Surfside Beach, SC. He and Doris moved to the beach and lived there for fourteen years. They now reside in Hendersonville, NC and just celebrated sixty-four years of marriage. He will be missed and remembered as a true southern gentleman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris, two sons, Stephen F. Smith of Forest City and his children, Cassie Smith and Laura Smith both of Asheville, Kent B. Smith and his wife Tami, Rutherfordton, and their two children, Heather Smith and husband Jeff Brugelman of Atlanta, Ga and Brannon Smith of Forest City, and one great-grandson, Elijah Thompson of Asheville, NC, and sister Eris Allen of Rutherfordton as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will be at their home in Wolf Pen at 63 Winter Wren Circle in Hendersonville, NC where friends can drop by on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from three until five o'clock in the afternoon. Private burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Four Season's Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
