Eleanora Meloun Obituary

NAPLES, Fla.-Eleanora W. Meloun, 91, passed away on March 16th, 2015, after a brief illness in Naples, FL. Born in Albany, NY, she was the eldest child of John and Jansje Witte. She graduated from schools in Albany and Schenectady, N.Y. After graduating from Business College, Eleanora was employed by General Electric as an administrative assistant. It was during her time at GE that she met, and later married Charles J. (Chuck) Meloun, who passed away in 1997. Eleanora and Chuck spent the early years of their life together in Hendersonville, where Chuck served as the manager of the Hendersonville location for General Electric. After spending time in Chicago, IL and Pittsfield, MA with GE, Chuck retired and the couple moved back to Hendersonville, often spending the winter months at their home in Naples, FL. Eleanora was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hendersonville.
Eleanora is survived by her son, K. Scott Meloun of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Eleanora loved Hendersonville, and often through the Community Foundation of Henderson County, became involved in supporting many local non-profits. She enjoyed taking an active role in many of the organizations she was involved in, with both her time and financial contributions. Eleanora's support has made a lasting impact on the ability of Henderson County's non-profits to deliver the highest quality services to those individuals and families in need. Her quiet leadership in supporting endowments and building campaigns through matching grants inspired others in the community to participate in major projects. These efforts contributed significantly to the creation of substantial infrastructure for organizations such as Pardee Hospital, Blue Ridge Community Health Services, the Children and Family Resource Center, the Henderson County Free Clinic and the Interfaith Assistance Ministry. Operational and endowment support to organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club of Henderson County, the Salvation Army, Blue Ridge Community College, Four Seasons Hospice, Hendersonville Rescue Mission, the Council on Aging, the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, the Flat Rock Playhouse and others, enabled those organizations to improve their quality of service and the number of individuals served.
A memorial service celebrating Eleanora's love of life, family and community will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. A reception will follow at the Hendersonville Country Club.
Eleanora's family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a non-profit organization of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Naples Funeral Home, naplesfuneralhome.com
