HENDERSONVILLE- Emmett Henry Duncan, age 89, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Four Seasons Elizabeth House. He was a native of Henderson County and the son of the late Perry Walter Duncan and Bertha Lela Lockaby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Jean Duncan and her husband Garry Richard Duncan, Sr.; Brothers Virgil Elmer Duncan and his wife Marie Stepp, William Oscar Duncan and his wife Ellie Alice Callahan; Sister Birdell Duncan; twin siblings Walter Ray Duncan and Bertha May Duncan; and paternal grandparents Hiram Perry Duncan and Martha Elizabeth Capps; maternal grandparents James Lockaby and Julia Jones.
Emmett was currently retired but previously worked 22 years at Food Lion, 16 years with Minute Man Anchors, Inc, and 28 years at Chipman-LaCrosse Hosiery Mill in East Flat Rock. He was a farmer, plumber, and machinist by trade but also a very talented woodworking craftsman. He was a longtime member of Mountain Page Baptist Church, in Saluda, NC and current member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Cedar Mountain, NC.
He is survived by his wife Gladys Guice Duncan, a brother: C. Glenn Duncan and wife Carolyn; 3 grandchildren, Rebecca Duncan Villasana Roberts and her husband Lewis Roberts, Jennifer Duncan Dean, and Richard Duncan, Jr. 4 great grandchildren Brittany Villasana, Emilio Villasana, Briana Roberts, Heath Roberts and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Reverend Jimmy Owens and Reverend Allen Martin officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors in Hendersonville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Four Seasons Elizabeth House Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
