Obituary Condolences

Frederica Ruth Hubert Noordhoff, 95, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, October 18, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Beloit, WI, she was the daughter of the late Fred Oliver and Ella Williams Hubert. She received her BA in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and had lived with her husband, Lyman, in Berkeley, CA, Champaign, IL, Raleigh, NC and the Washington, DC area prior to moving to Hendersonville in 1977. An accomplished watercolor artist, several of her works are part of the permanent collection of the U.S. District Court of Virginia and one painting was displayed in the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. She was a writer of published poetry and a member of the National League of American Pen Women. Her husband, Lyman J. Noordhoff, died in 2013. Mrs. Noordhoff led a life guided by a deeply personal relationship with Jesus Christ, her God and the Holy Spirit. She is survived by two children, Karen Noordhoff Hagstrom and her husband, David, of Portland and Sisters, OR and David James Noordhoff and his wife Anne of Stephens City, VA; grandson, Matthew H. Noordhoff of Herndon, VA and her sister in-law, Jeane Noordhoff Olson. A funeral will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 24, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Rev. Wally Shamburger will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to AMG International, 6815 Shallowford Road Chattanooga, TN 37421. Ruth contributed for several decades to the AMG mission and through it also devotedly supported at least two children over the years.
