French Earl Rogers, Jr. age 91 of Hendersonville died November 9, 2015 at the Laurels after a period of declining health.
French was born in Fontana, N.C. to the late French Earl and Emma Jenness Miller Rogers and grew up in Speedwell, Tennessee. He graduated from Powell Valley High School, Berea College and received his Master's Degree from the University of Illinois.
He taught at Edneyville High School in Henderson County until his retirement. His students fondly called him "Pop Rogers".
French was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Henderson Curb Market where he sold apples grown on the family farm. Favorite hobbies enjoyed by French were hunting and fishing.
Preceded in death by parents, French and Jenness Rogers; wife, Barbrea Hill Rogers; son, Jay Will Rogers and sister Nancy Ann Rogers Leach.
Survived by son Ray Rogers; grandson, James Ryan Griffin of Charlotte; brothers, JC Rogers , wife Norma of Augusta, GA.; Doyle Rogers, wife Rose of Speedwell, TN.; sister, Virginia Meadors of Maryrville, TN.; brother-in-law John Davis, wife Evelyn of Hendersonville, N.C. and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Mills River United Methodist Church in Mills River on Saturday January 9 at 2:30. The Reverends Paige Ann Miller and Christy Sharp will officiate.
