George Oliver Taylor Obituary
George Oliver Taylor, 97, of Henderson County, died Thursday, April 7, 2016 in the loving grace of his grandchildren and the compassionate staff at the Elizabeth House. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson county, one of 11 children born to Landrum Taylor and Ella Maxwell.
Ollie, George, Little Taylor, Dad, and Papaw, all familiar names known to those that knew him well or were meeting him for the first time. There was not a stranger known to him anywhere throughout his whole life. He served in the CCC at age 16, in the US Army at age 23, he married Adeline Pressley in 1945 and was the father of two sons.
Adeline preceded him in death in 1989. He worked 25 years and retired from Olin Corp.
He was a dedicated member of Mud Creek Church where he met and married Sarah Shepherd Corn. George could do anything, fix anything, or grow anything. He was a gifted storyteller and had a sense of humor that lifted the spirits of everyone that he came in contact with. What he did best and with such grace was live life wholeheartedly.
He was courageous, compassionate, and connected to so many people in his life. That kind of commitment to living is so special and a gift that many of us will grow from for the rest of our lives.
Surviving family include wife Sarah Corn Taylor; son George Larry Taylor and his wife Tara Taylor; son Douglas Edward Taylor; grandchildren, Staci Moreadith, Scott Taylor and his wife Amanda Taylor, Michael Taylor, Ashley Murphy and her husband Brannon Murphy; great-grandchildren, Sarah Redden, Seth and Edward Moreadith, Landon and Bella Taylor, Riley and Bryson Taylor; nieces Mary, Shirley, Debbie, Diane, Cindy and their families.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev Greg Mathis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Elizabeth House at tmcfunding.com.
