Gladys McCarty Jacobsen Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE--Gladys McCarty Jacobsen, of Hendersonville, died peacefully, early Tuesday morning, October 7, 2014 at Four Seasons Elizabeth House in Flat Rock. Gladys was born on July 4, 1916 in River Forest, IL to the late Merritt C. and Lillie Diggles Penticoff. Along with her parents and siblings, she is also preceded in death by her spouses: Brian Kenelm McCarty, who died in 1969 and Ernst S. Jacobsen, who died in 2000.
Gladys had a gift for making and maintaining friendships with everyone she met. She attended Northwest University, graduated from Bradford Junior College and Frances Shimer College. Prior to moving back to Henderson County in 1992, Gladys lived in Fort Pierce FL and Sequim, WA. Gladys was a member of St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock and attended Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville. She was a member of the Joseph P. McDowell chapter of the "Daughters of the American Revolution" and chapter AN, PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Alice McCarty of Hendersonville and Barbara McCarty Cofer and her husband RH of Indialantic, Florida, a son, Brian K. McCarty III and his wife Nancy of Mouth of Wilson, VA. She was a close, precious friend to Ernst Jacobsen's son, Ray Jacobsen of Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by and took a keen interest in the lives of her four grandchildren: Jennifer E. Murrey and her husband Carlton of Mills River, RC Cofer and his wife Juli of Indialantic, Florida, Brain McCarty IV of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Kimberly S. McCarty of Fort Pierce, Florida, and 13 great grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. As a person, wife, mother, artist, organist, traveler and friend, Gladys sought harmony and beauty.
Gladys will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be a private local service and a service in Fort Pierce, Florida at a later date.
