Glenn Robert Perry Obituary
After a courageous battle with cancer, on March 15, 2016 Glenn Perry, 82, passed away at his Pompano Beach, Florida home, where he resides during the winter months. He has been a resident of Hendersonville for the last 24 years. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and re-sided there until his retirement in 1991. After his graduation from the University of Arizona and serving in the Army, he returned to Chicago, beginning a career with Commerce Clearing House in an entry level Customer Service position. Through his 35 years of service, he advanced to Vice President for the business function of this large, prestigious law publishing company, supervising a staff of 200.
Glenn is survived by Steve Byerly, his life partner (now spouse) for the past 49 years. He also is survived by a sister, Carol Sapienza, Chicago, IL; nephew, Anthony Sapienza, Hoffman Estates IL; nieces Simone Gutt, Buffalo Grove, IL; Donna Ferrante, Roselle, IL; Doreen Reyes, Land O Lakes, FL; and Diana Linquist, Glen Ellen, IL. Glenn also leaves behind many, many close friends who will miss him greatly.
Glenn was an avid gardener spending many happy hours tending his beloved flowers and plantings at his and Steve's small farm in Tiskilwa, Illinois. Glenn carried his love for gardening into retirement creating spectacular grounds surrounding their home in Etowah as well. Glenn also loved to read and always kept abreast of current events. Additionally, he had an intense interest in Archeology. Another of Glenn's joys was travel. He and Steve traveled throughout the world over the years. Glenn meticulously planned these trips, touring with maps in hand and offering knowledgeable comments at each place of interest.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Hendersonville at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2016 followed by a reception honoring his life. Another service of celebration will be held in the Chicago area later this summer. Family and friends there will be notified as soon as these arrangements are made. He will be interred at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville, NC.
