Hannelore Lance Obituary
PISGAH FOREST-Hannelore Lance, 71 years old, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014. Hannelore was born in Kiel, Germany and was the daughter of Hans Heinrich Wulff of Ahrenviol, Germany and Hannchen Wulff of Haselund, Germany who both preceded her in death.
Her husband, Larry Eugene Lance of Penrose NC survives her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Steve Lance and Susan Michelle Lance (Cabe) of Penrose, NC, as well as by her daughter and son-in-law, Natascha Lance-Arztenhofer and Bernd Arztenhofer of Obernzenn, Germany. She leaves behind her granddaughter, Emma Natascha Lance of Penrose, NC. She is also survived by two sisters, Anita Thun of Glinde, Germany and Hildegard Gellesch of Kiel, Germany. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews, as well as great nephews in Germany.
Hannelore and Larry were married on August 19, 1964 in Hanau, Germany and shared 51 "golden" years together. Hannelore continued to share in her family's lives as a devoted wife and loving mother by traveling the world with her husband, who was both military active duty and Civil Service and by raising her two children to always strive to be compassionate and generous towards others. She taught them to care for others before themselves and continued to be a model for this unconditional love throughout their lives. After many years of living in both Germany and the United States, she and her husband finally settled down in Penrose, NC in 1997.
She retired from retail sales in 2002, which allowed her the time to continue her travels to Germany, so that she could visit her daughter and her family.
Hannelore was devoted to her faith and as such she chose to join Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was always an active member in church activities for as long as she could do so.
She was an avid animal lover and wholeheartedly devoted to the care and ethical treatment of all animals. As such, Hannelore was always in support of ASPCA and PETA. She left no animal unloved or lacking in care, just as she left no life untouched by her love, generosity, and compassion.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard. Services will be presided over by Father Andrew Nowak. There will be a short reception at the church following the memorial mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family is honoring Hannelore's wish and asks that donations be made to her memorial fund in care of Natascha V. Lance account number 61435613 with memo stating "for American Leukemia Foundation" at the State Employees' Credit Union located in Brevard, NC.
"We are born of love; Love is our mother."
