Obituary Condolences

EDNEYVILLE-Harold Owenby, 81, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late, Whitt and Ruth Gibbs Owenby. He is also preceded in death by: a step-father, Clyde Robert Laughter; his wife, Margie Terry Owenby; four sisters, Emmie Owenby Laughter, Helen Owenby Laughter, Iris Laughter Luther, and Velma Laughter Boyd.
Harold graduated from Edneyville High School. After graduating he worked on a farm in Laurens, SC with his uncle; where he met his bride of 57 years. He then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Harold retired in 1993 from General Electric, after 38 years of service; and was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
He was also the Co-Owner and Operator of Owenby Orchards and The Apple House, with his son, Greg. If he wasn't at GE working he was in the apple orchards working. Harold enjoyed farming from a young age and actively pursued this passion for more than 35 years.
Harold is survived by two children, Denise Owenby Orr and her husband Larry and Gregory Harold Owenby and his wife Loraine; two grandchildren, Kathy Orr Sullivan and her husband Randy and Karan Orr Parris and her husband Jeremy; two great-grandchildren, Conner Parris and Cade Sullivan all of Edneyville; a sister, Ethen Laughter Capps of McDonough, GA; a brother, Larry Laughter and his wife Wanda of Edneyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Our Father, Pappy, and Great-Pappy was and will always be deeply loved and dearly missed. His life was an inspiration and legacy to his family.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Melton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
