Helen Maxwell LoPresti

Obituary Condolences

HAMPSTEAD – Helen Maxwell LoPresti, aged 88, of Hampstead, NC, died peacefully on Monday, February 2, at Davis Health Care Center in Wilmington, NC.
She was born Helen Marguerite Maxwell on January 11, 1927, in Hendersonville, NC, the daughter of the late Carl and Mae Maxwell.
Helen is survived by five children: Joseph LoPresti, Jr. and his spouse Judith of Burke, VA, Linda Hanks of Houston, TX, Christopher LoPresti and his spouse Candice of Mt. Jackson, VA, Bartholomew LoPresti and his spouse Susan of Smithfield, VA, and Patrick LoPresti and his spouse Katya of Milpitas, CA. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and her sisters Evelyn Meushaw and Dorothy Ann Greene. Helen is predeceased by her sister Carol Thompson.
Helen graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1944 as valedictorian of her class. She studied nursing at Georgetown University School of Nursing in Washington, DC and mathematics at Asheville-Biltmore College (UNCA) in Asheville, NC. Helen married Joseph Michael LoPresti, Sr. (deceased) on April 29, 1945, and upon his completion of medical school and a tour in the United States Army they settled in the Washington, DC area. They lived in Hyattsville, MD and Fairfax Station, VA before relocating to Hampstead following their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1995.
Helen devoted her life to caring for her family, which kept her very busy with her church and her children's school activities. She always gave of herself without asking anything in return, and her advice was sought and cherished by everyone who knew her. As a result, her home became the most popular gathering point in the neighborhood for her children's friends where she provided a safe and welcoming environment for all.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, February 4 at Sea Lawn Memorial Park in Hampstead, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association (http://alz.org).
