HENDERSONVILLE-Jack D. Johnson, age 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday March 4, 2015 surrounded in love by his family at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Joe, Mutt, Wade, Pete, Al and Jim and 4 sisters, Ruby Feagan, Louise Faulkner, Catherine Wright and Carolyn Applin.
Jack loved life and all living things. He found humor everywhere. He was born into a produce family and was involved in all aspects of farming throughout his life. At one time he was the largest pole bean grower in the Carolinas. He truly cared for people and their well-being. He took pleasure in visiting the sick and elderly. He never met a stranger.
He was a passionate member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. He faithfully attended his Roy Johnson Sunday School Class and visited the children in the Sunday School nurseries.
Jack was deeply devoted to his family and embraced the role of being a father. He taught a strong work ethic and led by example. He gave endlessly and unselfishly and was actively involved in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. He was widely known among family and friends as "Papa".
