James Edward Orrell "POPO", of Flat Rock, passed away in Friday, April 12, 2013. He was born on September 27, 1943 and spent his childhood in Chattanooga, TN. After graduating from high school he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He joined the US Army's elite Special Forces as a linguist after completing one year at UT. He completed 6 combat tours in Vietnam until he was wounded so severely that he was medically retired with 100% disability. He was awarded numerous citations including 2 silver stars, 5 bronze stars, 6 army commendation awards, and 6 purple hearts. After his honorable career in the Army, he completed his degree in business finance and then obtained his MBA at Mercer Univ in Atlanta, GA. He worked for numerous companies as a financial auditor until retiring to Flat Rock in 1997. He is survived by his wife Nancy, 4 children- James, Mellissa (husband Gary), Edward (wife Stacy) and Amanda, 6 granddaughters- Abby, Riley, Emily, Katie, Cadence and Whitney and personal friends, Tom, Jeff and Holly. He wished for no services, instead requests everybody to spend the time making memories with their families.
